Ayodhya, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) candidate, Chandrabhanu Paswan, is currently in the lead by more than 40,000 votes in the Milkipur Assembly bypoll, according to the latest updates following the 18th round of counting on Saturday.
As per the Election Commission's website, Paswan has garnered 92,260 votes, while Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Ajit Prasad has obtained 49,374 votes. In third place is Azad Samaj Party’s Santosh Kumar with 1,976 votes.
With only a few more rounds of counting left, BJP's Paswan has firmly established his lead over Prasad.
This bypoll became necessary after Awadhesh Prasad, who secured the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat in 2024, vacated the Milkipur constituency.
The BJP nominated Chandrabhanu Paswan, while the SP selected Ajit Prasad, the son of Awadhesh Prasad. Notably, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress chose not to participate in this election.
Voting occurred on February 5, and since that day, the SP has continuously accused the police and the Election Commission of electoral misconduct.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar credited the BJP's lead to its focus on development.
“I sensed the public's sentiment. They desire the 'milk' of development. The BJP is competing with the 'milch cow' of progress, while the Opposition is merely contending with a cow. Voters will select the milch cow,” he stated.
In response to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav's claims against the Election Commission, Rajbhar countered, stating, “He has no substantial evidence to support his claims.”
When asked about the BJP's strong showing in Delhi election trends, he commented, “Citizens have faith in PM Modi’s work and are voting accordingly.”
Discussing the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Rajbhar confirmed his party’s ongoing alliance with the BJP, declaring, “We are aligned with the NDA and will contest the elections as a unit.”
The Milkipur seat, located in the politically significant Ayodhya district, has become a crucial contest between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP.
